Sharing
Turn a route or a ride into a link anyone can open in a browser, see what the page shows, and know that the link expires after a year.
A share link turns one of your routes or rides into a web page that anyone can open, with a map, the figures and a GPX download. Use it to send a ride to a friend, to post a route in a forum, or to get a route onto another phone without a file.
Link sharing is part of Velorki Plus. Opening someone else's link is free and needs nothing at all.
Create a link#
- Open a route in Library → Routes, or a ride in Library → Rides.
- Tap Share link.
- Velorki uploads the track and opens a sheet titled Share link: "Anyone with this link can see the route on a map and download the GPX. Viewing needs no account." The link is there as selectable text, with the date it stops working under it.
- Copy link puts it on the clipboard, Share hands it to the phone's share sheet.
Without Plus the button is still there, and tapping it says "Link sharing is part of Velorki Plus." with a way to the subscription page.
What the person who opens it sees#
A single page, with no account, no sign-up and no tracking:
- whether it is a Route shared from Velorki or a Ride shared from Velorki, and its name,
- DISTANCE, and ASCENT and DURATION where they are known,
- a map with the track drawn on it, a green marker at the start and an orange one at the end,
- Open in Velorki, which hands the route to the Velorki app if it is installed,
- Download GPX, which gives them the file.
The page is not indexed by search engines, and it carries no third-party scripts, fonts or analytics.
Open in Velorki downloads the GPX and takes the recipient to the ordinary import screen, where they name it and save it as a route or a ride like any other file.
On a phone that has Velorki installed, the link itself does the same: tapping a share link, Download GPX included, opens the app and lands on that import screen instead of the browser.
What a link is, and what it is not#
A share link is a long random address and nothing more. It carries no password and no permission check: anyone who has the link can open it, including anyone it gets forwarded to.
Nothing on the page says who you are, because Velorki has no account and stores no identity with the shared item. But the track itself does say where you started and where you finished. Think before sharing a ride that begins at your front door.
Expiry#
A shared item is stored for one year and then deleted automatically, which is what the "The link stops working on 17 Sept 2027." line in the sheet means. After that the link returns a plain "not found" page.
There is currently no button in the app to withdraw a link before then. If a link has to come down sooner, write to [email protected] with the link itself; there is no account to look it up by, so the link is what is needed.
Deleting the route or the ride from your library does not remove the shared copy, and uninstalling the app does not either.
Limits#
Sharing is rate limited to thirty new links a day. If you hit that, wait until tomorrow.
